Corporate Social Responsibility

At APN Outdoor, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) starts with our commitment to ethical behaviour. It challenges us to provide a safe and healthy work environment, manage our environmental impacts and contribute meaningfully to the communities in which we operate.
We recognise that operating in a carbon constrained world means we must make every effort to reduce our environmental impact. In 2010 we are increasing our efforts in this regard.
Making a difference to our communities is part of our company values, and we do it in partnership with our employees. Their enthusiasm, skills and commitment guide where and how we contribute.
Listening to the views of our stakeholders and working collaboratively with our customers, suppliers, our industry, governments and local communities helps us to balance financial performance with social and environmental well being.
THINK SUSTAINABILITY
Our ‘Think Sustainability' program was developed to improve, manage and measure our environmental footprint and community contributions. Think Sustainability is based on four key pillars including Greening Outside, Greening Inside, Giving Outside and Volunteering Outside.
Greening Outside
The Greening Outside pillar aims to decrease our environmental impacts and is primarily focused on the reduction of landfill waste. A program is currently in operation to recycle skins for disaster relief via our membership of the Outdoor Media Association. So far in 2010, we have provided close to 50 pallets of skins to be used in providing shelter for victims of natural disasters locally and overseas.
APN Outdoor is also rolling out new energy efficient LED lighting on new site builds and investigating the viability of new substrates as they are developed.
Greening Inside
Inside our office environment, APN Outdoor staff are actively engaged in recycling and reducing printing and energy consumption, among other initiatives.
Giving Outside
APN Outdoor's chosen community cause of homelessness is supported through a partnership with Mission Australia that was recently formed in July 2010. Under the partnership, APN Outdoor will provide free media to Mission Australia to raise awareness of and support for their homeless services, as well as contribute staff volunteering hours.
APN Outdoor also provided free media value totaling $6.6 million to charity and community organisations in 2008 and $4.8 million in 2009.
Volunteering Outside
A corporate volunteering program is currently in development which will provide APN Outdoor staff with the opportunity to donate their time working with Mission Australia's homeless services.
